I don’t really understand why “black” is a category at all. Where do they put black guys who have been in the military, have big muscles or are “hunks”? Are those other categories white-only? What about guys who are Asian, aboriginal, middle-eastern, etc, do they go in the main categories or in “Black” or are they just not allowed on the site at all? I dunno, that just sounds really weird to me.

I’m an undergrad art student from the UK and I came across this project while researching for a paper on art and pornography. I don’t normally leave comments on things but I wanted you to know that I think that what you’re doing here is really awesome and I’m glad that something like this exists in the world. I’ve thought for years that there isn’t enough visual erotica that caters to straight women, and I find a lot of porn off-putting as a result. I don’t really have anything to add but I just wanted to show my support. Wish you the best of luck.

I think the project of yours is great. I’ve recently become a male model myself, and me and my photographer is experimenting with different styles and settings, it’s all on an amateur level now since I haven’t done modeling before, but I’m improving! The photographer is also an amateur, actually she’s a friend of mine, but she’s getting better and better too. Like your project it’s almost like a think thank where different ideas about exposing the male body are explored and new ones are invented.I’ve even experimented with having different body types over the past few years. from having the “few pounds extra”, to being an average joe, and now, after following a strict diet and spending time in the gym looking more like a traditional model with a more ripped/toned/muscled body type. The idea is to try to determine what body type is suitable for me. I’m quite a hairless guy, so the traditional model look may be most suitable for me, also according to a few women that constitute a small “panel of judges”.(Damn, that means more strict diets and time in the gym..not that I’m whining…:P)

We’ve also experimented with different “levels” of clothing and “explicity”, everything from being topless, from posing in a set of boxer shorts and to full frontal nudity. A couple of days ago we experimented with the first hard-on pictures.

It’s been a challenging and at times daunting experience when you’re just starting out as an amateur, but like you say it’s all about manifesting an appreciation for the male body – and I do feel appreciated. Comments from my photographer and the “expert panel” have been so supportive.

The idea is to (hopefully) start up a small company where I’ll be modeling, she will be the photographer and another friend of mine will be the manager, i.e. she’ll be responsible for all “public relations”, but as for now we have to experiment and professionalize a bit before commercialization is possible

Eep! I LIKE men’s bodies and I don’t want to see a male sexy cookie monster (although frankly, the female one puzzles me equally). I think part of the lack of sexy male costumes is that the very IDEA of dressing up is antithetical to typical male “sexiness.” Because a “real man” doesn’t need a costume to emphasize how awesome he is. It’s another stupid double standard, wherein it’s childish and silly if a man plays dress up, but totally cute if a woman does it. Blarg.

I have read The Male Body thanks for the tip-off.

I liked it in parts, some parts a lot. There is a great deconstruction of Dirk Diggler’s Dick from Boogie Nights. But if you do read it I hope you do so in conjunction with Metrosexy which gives a different (and in my opinion more accurate) analysis of how men have come to enjoy being so ‘on display’ in contemporary culture!

well when a man ‘leans’ if I understand it rightly, he makes himself very available for the ‘penetrating’ gaze of the camera/viewer. Basically he is asking for it. So some men can feel anxious about what that says about them, as models, photographers or viewers of such images.

This all sounds like very exciting stuff (particularly male pinups and male submission)! I found this blog awhile back from the excellent “but why?” article confronting myths about perceptions of female interest in male images and so on. I really appreciate the aims of Andro-Aperture and the discussion this get-together generated.
